FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Maine Marine Patrol Focuses on Safety and Homeland Security - New Security Assets, Twin PROTECTOR 28' Cabin Boats
Augusta, ME - The Maine Marine Patrol has just taken delivery of two new 28’ Cabin PROTECTOR
boats to protect and secure Maine’s vast and rugged coastline. “We are now able to respond
quickly to any security threat” explains Major John Fetterman, “the boats allow us to work
effectively with the Maine State Police Tactical Team and US Coast Guard. We now have the
ability to deploy our tactical team to a freighter or ferry or set up a security perimeter during ship
escorts and points of security concern.”
The Maine Marine Patrol will launch their new PROTECTORS through rigorous training with the US
Coast Guard tactical training experts. Each 28' Cabin PROTECTOR can reach comfortable speeds
to 55MPH with a full load of gear and 12 passengers while performing challenging missions in
a safe, dry and fully enclosed cabin. These ultra stable, fast and secure vessels give the state
new capabilities to perform the important missions of patrolling Maine’s rugged coast and
homeland security 365 days a year, in any weather conditions.
Protector History
Originally engineered for the New Zealand Coast Guard, PROTECTOR is a multi-purpose,
high-performance, hard bottom inflatable powerboat. The solid laminate fiberglass hull is built for
strength and safety. The chambered hypalon tubes provide shock absorption, stability and additional
flotation. Together, the deep-V hull and UV resistant tubes create unmatched safety and performance
compared to traditional hard sided boat designs. In the United States, custom-equipped commercial
boats have been built for police, fire and search and rescue teams across the country.
PROTECTOR’s current line of boats includes a Center Console (22’, 25’, 28’), Targa (28’, 35’), and
the new HAURAKI (40’).
